Looking back on my five years of internet marketing, it has been a long and slow uphill battle, but I never gave up on the belief that one day I would eventually be able to replace my day job with my own profitable on line business from the comfort of my own home.

Time has always been an issue for me; working about 50 to 60 hours some weeks, whilst at the same time also being a single parent bringing up my daughter the best way I could. That put trying to get my internet marketing project on a shoe string of a time budget, as well of that as a financial budget. Sometimes I would literally not do a thing on the computer for days, sometimes even weeks. Needles to say, this type of commitment, expectedly produced zero profits. It could take months just to get half a dozen inbound hyperlinks pointing to my site, at this time there were no great products like 1waylinks to take the load off me and put it the whole process on auto pilot.

Thing have changed these days though, now I have changed jobs and have had the free time to spend on my IM projects, which have brought in reaping rewards. One of the hardest heralds I had to learn to negotiate was separating the hype from fact in all millions of conflicting advice for internet marketing eBooks and reports and so on, it really is down to you how you resolve that issue as everyone of the will tell you they are right!

I think for the first couple of years I tended to think about where I wanted to be in five years time, but never really put the time or effort (or I should really say action) into getting things moving forward and getting things done. Moving forward, in internet marketing terms, is all about building more assets, more assets and better assets. The more assets you have and the better the said assets are, the better your profits will be. You should look at every single web page you own or have on a web 2.0 site as one of your assets. Now to make your assets better you need to track every single click that a visitor makes on each and every one of your assets, if you do not, you will never know exactly where your revenue is coming from and exactly which advert makes you money and which one needs tuning to make you more money. Quite simply, if you do not track everything, you are running blind in the dark.

I may have jumped the gun a bit here, as I am assuming we have traffic on our sites, to get traffic you really need great content and some 1waylinks with keyword anchor text built in to those links. This is not the only kind of links I use, I use every type of inbound links I can get pointing my way, as I think link diversity is vital to our SEO efforts, but 1waylinks is my present day favourite as the system is very effective indeed, as well as quick and simple to use.

Outsourcing my content generation to professional copywriters was a very good move for me, I did this about two years ago, freeing up time to spend on off site seo projects. You can spend too much time reading eBooks that tell you what’s right; I found it’s better to just get on with a bit of trial and error!
