Why Are Review Sites Are So Compelling?
Web Review sites are springing up all over the net at a velocity which is dizzying. Why is this the case? Is there much money to be made with them or are the owners making these sites up for altruistic reasons?
Put simply, there are lots of them because it's great for business. Whatever business you are in, these review sites are becoming an ever more important part of your marketing strategy. We are living in a world which is becoming ever more distracting through a massive array of choices put forth to us hourly.
We as a consumer society just do not have the time to carefully research the purchase choices we want to make and as a direct result we need to make shortcuts in our decision making process.
Can you remember the last big item you purchased. Did you pull out the credit card on the spur of the moment and make a purchase. I doubt it – I'm betting you probably asked around with friends and colleagues to solicit their input and see if any of them had already purchased the item in question.

Like it or not, we are all very similar when it comes to this decision making activity. We are in essence a "marketing herd" and are persuaded by other peoples opinions – even the opinions of complete strangers!
There are review sites on pretty much every conceivable subject known to man, from corporate social responsibility through to the best kinds of glasses you should purchase. You can conduct a quick search on any search engine and you are pretty much guaranteed to find some useful reviews in next to no time.
Does this mean you blindly trust all the reviews you read? Definitely not. There are plenty of people out there submitting reviews with their own agenda. You cannot put faith solely on the say-so of a single review. Instead, put the review in context, try to obtain a few more reviews (you might want to put in some extra searches with keywords like "scam" as an example to find some differing points of view.
Review sites work, have worked and will work because they give us the alluring promise of finding out useful information about things we are interested in and protecting the most important resource we have – time.
