Success In Multi Level Marketing - Why Long Term Goals Are Dangerous
Achieving success in network marketing shouldn't be viewed as something you do when you've reached your company's top level and receive a healthy residual income check every week for the rest of your life.
If you measure success this way you will set yourself up for failure. Sure it's great to have a grand plan and vision and an end goal is crucial to succeeding but it's the small successes you have along the way which you need to be spending your time concentrating on.
Without them, the leap from start to finish is impossible. They are the small bite-size chunks you need to be taking that bring you closer to your ultimate goal. Many start in MLM and aim fore the stars straight off the bat. The result usually means disappointment and a quick exit from their business.
The key to success in MLM is achieving small goals such as signing up your first person, completing a marketing campaign, sourcing new leads, helping one of your downline get over a problem…all these add up to overall success yet you won't really see it at the time. But when you look back, you'll see they all helped push you in the right direction.
How To Set Short Term Goals
Too many network marketers look at the end goal first and create a noose around their necks from the word go. Network marketing is a long term business and success doesn't happen instantly.
By focusing on the long term goal you've suddenly set yourself an impossible task and will soon become dejected.
For example, if your long term goal is to be making $5000 a month from your business and you're led to believe this can happen within three months then you're in trouble, especially if you're operating via the old school prospecting methods.
We're here to tell you it can't be done. But to achieve $5000 a month within eighteen months, well, that is definitely achievable. But you get there in steps.
This is the time to set short term goals. Here's a guide:
- first month you aim for one sign up
- second month you aim for another two sign ups
- third month you aim for another three sign ups
Why Small Goals Rock!
That's only an example but you get the message. By wiping off the small goals with small bites then you are inching closer to your long term target. And never look back. Yes, assess where you are each time you reach a target and re-adjust if you have.
Success in network marketing isn't just about setting goals. That's just part of the equation. It requires associated action and in the beginning, a strong mentor.
One of the best methods to help you get to your short term goals is to appoint a mentor who you can report to on a daily basis with your completed tasks.
Choose somebody you have strong respect for and someone you hate to let down. You won't believe how powerful this can be and how it breaks through the paralysis analysis barrier of home business.
In fact, for success in multi level marketing, using this tactic is almost a must and when done properly, it can propel you forward like nothing you've seen.
